People For Member, The COVID-19 pandemic is a once-in-a-century threat that continues to wreak havoc on our country and around the globe. But right-wing members of Congress – including some who try to wrap themselves in labels like ‘moderate’ and ‘sensible’ – are trying to sabotage the administration’s efforts to do what is needed and GO BIG on an urgent coronavirus relief package. Their ‘compromise’ proposals lack a serious appreciation for the magnitude of the crisis and the pain that Americans are experiencing. This is no time to nickel and dime the American people or to shy away from what needs to be done to meet this challenge. Right now, during one of the most dangerous and harmful phases of the pandemic, Congress needs to embrace big, bold action like the measures contained in the Biden-Harris administration’s American Rescue Plan. As of February 4, the job market has seen elevated layoffs week-to-week for six straight months. Nearly 17.8 million jobless workers are regularly claiming unemployment benefits, according to the most recent reporting on January 16.[1] And Americans across the country are $70 billion behind on rent and $32 billion behind on utility bills.[2] Yet right-wing lawmakers continue to attempt to cut down the amount of assistance provided. It’s unacceptable. This is a historic crisis on a par with a catastrophe such as the Great Depression and the government response needs to be just as serious. Tell Congress that we need them to pass a robust coronavirus aid package without further delay! >> Calling attention to the continued urgency of the pandemic, President Biden stated, “The risk in this moment isn’t that we do too much — it’s that we don’t do enough.” That’s why we need you to act today to make sure that all members of Congress know exactly how important passing comprehensive COVID-19 aid is to their constituents. Thanks for all you do. In solidarity, Sarah, Digital Campaigns Associate
