Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Applauds House Action to Strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Committee Assignments
WASHINGTON -- On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted 230-199 to strip Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) of her committee seats on the House Education and Labor Committee and House Budget Committee.
Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Executive Director Josh Horwitz has warned of the dangers of armed insurrectionism and political violence for more than a decade. He issued the following statement in response to the passage of the resolution:
Without accountability, the QAnon threat within our government will only continue to grow. Without condemnation and consequences, this extremist philosophy will spread and become more menacing to our democratic process.
Today, the Democratic majority in the U.S. House of Representatives took decisive action by stripping Representative Greene from committee seats that never should have been awarded to her to begin with. Since the beginning of her campaign for Congress, Rep. Greene’s embrace of QAnon conspiracies and support from insurrectionist domestic terrorist groups were central to her political identity. The philosophy that Rep. Greene subscribes to is the same as those of the domestic terrorists who attacked our Capitol. The stated goals of those terrorists -- the murder of the Speaker of the House, the overturning of a free and fair election, the normalization of political violence -- are echoed by Rep. Greene.
Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has shown he is not up to the role he holds. The word in his title is nothing but honorary because he possesses no real leadership ability. Today, McCarthy and almost all of his Republican colleagues chose cult over country.
CSGV applauds Speaker Pelosi, Chairman McGovern, Majority Leader Hoyer, and all those who voted in favor of democracy for opposing political violence and working to purge the People’s House of this dangerous ideology.
