John -- I was just featured in a NBC News article talking about my journey to Congress, and I wanted to make sure I shared it with you.

“I never thought I would embark on a journey that would take me from public housing in the Bronx to the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.”

Every day, I walk through the doors of Congress as the first gay Afro Latino member elected to serve.

Then, I enter my office, an office once belonging to President John F. Kennedy, and start my work. So when I say I can feel the weight of history on me, I mean it.

Recently, I was named the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security. As a native New Yorker who lived through 9/11, and a freshman Congressman who lived through an insurrection in our nation’s capital, I am honored that my colleagues trust me with this responsibility.

We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, John, but I am diving in head first because I know the challenges we’re facing need immediate attention. Will you send in $3 so I can continue fighting for what is right?

I will be the first to tell you -- I cannot pluck a magic wand out of thin air and magically solve every problem we face.

But I am a worker. No one has ever handed me anything on a silver platter -- I have had to fight for it, which is why I am so ready to fight for the Bronx.

John, I want you to join in this fight. Our team is setting big goals for this month, and we can’t reach them without our grassroots members -- that’s you. Please, give as much as you can before midnight tonight to start this month off strong >> [link removed]
