Johnson & Johnson asked the US government on Thursday to clear its one-shot coronavirus vaccine for emergency use, the first step in a regulatory process that that could lead to the rollout of the third COVID-19 vaccine within a few weeks.

The giant health care company, which licensed technology pioneered by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, has promised to deliver 100 million doses in the United States by the end of June.
