Today, I announced that my office will be sending checks to hundreds of small businesses and nonprofits across Rhode Island. 

My priority as Treasuer is to promote economic growth in our state, and small businesses are central to our economic identity. Many small businesses and nonprofits are struggling due to Covid-19, and I will do everything in my power to help them survive, recover and thrive. 

Under our new program, Rhode Island will be one of the first states in the country to automatically return unclaimed property to many small businesses and nonprofits, with no paperwork required. 

The first round of checks hits the mail tomorrow. The average amount of unclaimed property small businesses will be receiving is over $600, with some exceeding $10,000.   

In addition to proactively returning hundreds of checks, we’re launching a public awareness campaign to encourage small businesses and nonprofits to go to FindRI.money.com to see if they’re owed any missing money.
