WJC President Lauder calls to cease donations to Columbia University over invitation to antisemitic Malaysian PM
In a letter to Columbia President Lee Bollinger, Amb. Lauder wrote that in light of this event and against the backdrop of rising vitriol targeting Jewish students on campus, he would be encouraging his friends to immediately cease their contributions to the university “until such a time when antisemitic despots are no longer welcome on your campus.”

“Jacques Chirac was a true tour de force among European leaders, taking it upon himself to rectify the errors of his predecessors and recognize France’s dark history in aiding Nazi Germany in the oppression and murder of Jews during the Holocaust,” said WJC President Ronald S. Lauder.

Number of Jews worldwide hits 14.8 million
In statistics published ahead of Rosh Hashanah, which begins Sunday evening, the Jewish Agency says 8.1 million Jews live outside Israel, with the largest population in the United States, which has 5.7 million Jews.

World Jewish Congress welcomes UN special rapporteur’s unprecedented report on antisemitism
In response to the findings, which will officially be presented to the UN General Assembly in October, WJC President Ronald S. Lauder exclaimed "hope that this report serves as an eye-opener to the United Nations and its member states and that they finally take concrete action to stem the surge of antisemitism across the globe.

WJC President Lauder thanks Austria for decision to grant citizenship to Jews expelled by Nazis
The meeting was held in a positive and constructive atmosphere, focusing on a number of key issues including the recent unanimous decision of the Austrian parliament to grant citizenship to all Austrian Jews expelled by the Nazis, as well as their descendants.

At UNGA, WJC representatives discuss antisemitism, Israel, citizenship law with Spanish Foreign Minister
Spanish FM Borrell opened the meeting by noting that Spain is proud of its Jewish heritage. He also underscored that rates of antisemitism in Spanish society is far less than in other countries of the European Union, with fewer than six incidents reported in the latest figures compiled in 2017.

WJC calls on UNHRC to protect Christians in the Middle East
During his speech, WJC Jewish Diplomat Aaron Cohen-Gold made clear that "this Council must do everything it can to protect Christians in the Middle East, the last remaining substantial minority in the Arab world. Now one of the most persecuted religions on earth, it is important for us as Jews to advance our voice in the protection of this vulnerable population."

“Unfortunately, millions of women around the world still lack basic human rights and face discrimination and gender-based violence. Their voices are underrepresented in politics, business or academia. Social media has become a weapon of hate for neo-Nazis, white supremicist, and terrorist organizations. Such space should be free of radicalization and incitement. The WJC works closely with social media companies to create safe spaces online for all peoples and groups.
