Date:    Friday, September 27, 2019To:        Friends & SupportersFrom:   Gary L. Bauer, Director Israel At The U.N.Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz addressed the United Nations General Assembly yesterday.  He spoke on Israel's behalf as Prime Minister Netanyahu remained in Jerusalem attempting to negotiate the formation of a new government.  Katz proudly defended the Jewish state and urged Israel's Arab neighbors to unite in opposition to the growing belligerence of Iran.  Below are some excerpts of his remarks ( [link removed](?x-mi:(?%3C=href=)[%5Cs]*[ )."In 1947, the U.N recognized the right of the Jewish People, to its own state in the Land of Israel, and seventy-one years ago, we established the State of Israel. . . Israel is a real democracy for all of its citizens, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. "But, first of all, Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish People, based on thousands of years of Jewish history, and the right of the Jewish People to its own homeland. . . "I want to thank the President of the United States, Donald Trump, for his historic and brave decision to recognize Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish People for three thousand years, as the capital of Israel, and to relocate the American embassy to Jerusalem. I call on all countries to follow the United States, and to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. . ."Israel wants peace with all its neighbors. We signed peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan, and are working today to advance our relations with many Arab states in the region."We call on the Palestinian Authority to stop incitement. To stop encouraging and financing terrorism. And to recognize the right of the Jewish People to its own state. We call on the Palestinians to come back to direct negotiations without any pre-conditions. . . "The main problem threatening stability and security in the Middle East is Iran, which threatens to destroy Israel, and works against the regimes of many countries in the region. . .  "We recently saw a serious escalation in which Iranian missiles were launched from Iran against Saudi oil facilities. . .  This terror attack against Saudi Arabia was done on the direct orders of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. "Iran is the biggest terror state . . . in the world.  I call on the international community to unite in order to stop Iran.  The world cannot allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. The world cannot allow Iran to develop ballistic missiles, and the world must stop Iran from supporting terror organizations in the region. . . "I call on the international community to support President Trump's maximum pressure policy against Iran. This is the way to stop them.  We must stop Iran today, in order to prevent war tomorrow. . . "Israel has a clear policy to advance ties, and normalization with the Arab Gulf States.  We have no conflict with the Gulf States, and we have common interests in the field of security against the Iranian threat as well as in developing many joint civilian initiatives. . . I hope that this cooperation will lead to the signing of peace agreements between our countries, as we did with Egypt and Jordan."What About The Houthis? There's been a lot of news lately about the Houthis in Yemen.  They are often presented in the media as sympathetic figures -- the "David" taking on the Saudi "Goliath."  In reality, they are terrorists.  The Washington Post writes that the group originated from a branch of Shiite Islam but adopted its name from Hussein al-Houthi after he was killed leading protests against the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.  As you can imagine, Iran was eager to back a Shiite insurgency opposed to the United States. In 2015, with Tehran's backing, the Houthis toppled the Yemeni government and began launching attacks on Saudi Arabia, Iran's main Arab rival.  In the years since, they have fired more than 300 rockets and missiles into the kingdom, killing more than 100 Saudis.  Many in the West have been disturbed by the images of the Saudi campaign against the Houthi terrorists.  But this group is not likely to sit down at a negotiating table any time soon.  And the Houthi flag tells you everything you need to know.  According to Dr. Uzi Rubin ( [link removed](?x-mi:(?%3C=href=)[%5Cs]*[ ) of the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security:"Its flag lacks any figurative symbols, as befits devout Muslims.  It sports a slogan in bold colorful letters: 'God is Great; Death to America; Death to Israel; A Curse on the Jews; Victory for Islam.'"L'Shanah TovahTo all of our Jewish friends and supporters, CUFI Action Fund wishes you a happy Rosh Hashanah!
