Dear John, Did you see this?!? Up North News surfaced an email that was sent from Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos just 27 hours after the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha. The email proves that they created the Speaker's Task Force on Racial Disparities to score political points and to undermine genuine attempts to solve Wisconsin's unfair policing and institutionalized racism. >> Click here to send a message to Steineke demanding that he apologize to the people of Wisconsin and step down from his position as the co-chair of the task force. The task force includes 28 community members, including advocates, educators, and healthcare officials. It takes a lot of research, effort, and time for these individuals and their organizations to provide recommendations. However, the recently released email indicates that Vos and Steineke never intended to advance the task force members' proposals to address racial disparities. Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes sums up Steineke and Vos's intentions the best: "They literally did not want to do a thing." Racial equity is something we take seriously at WAVE Educational Fund. We expect our leaders to see their constituents' humanity and realize that bringing forth equitable legislation and having these crucial conversations are life-saving measures. People who sincerely care about equity should lead the Task Force on Racial Disparities. That is why we are asking you to send a message to Steineke demanding that he apologize and step down from his position as co-chair leading the Speaker's Task Force on Racial Disparities. Steineke's shameful intentions and actions are a disgrace to people who show up to do their jobs with passion every day.
