The Unz Review Digest - September 27, 2019

Ranking first by huge margin was my 20,000 word “counter-narrative” of the history of World War II, which set new early traffic records for all of my articles from the last few years and possibly for the website as well, with readership approaching that of the next two pieces combined.  This extremely long work summarized, excerpted, and extended many of my previous pieces of the last year or two, strongly arguing that much of what is commonly believed about that huge conflict that shaped our modern world is actually false, and perhaps even inverted.  Although the text was quite long when one considers that it directly challenges the hundreds of thousands of individual books written about the Second World War, such length is only to be expected.  Within just the first few days, it has already attracted nearly 750 comments, totaling well over 100,000 words.

In almost any other week, either of the second or third ranking pieces, both Paul Kersey columns dealing with racially-motivated attacks upon by blacks upon whites, would easily have placed first.  The first discussed the deadly, random attack upon a 59-year-old white man at a public fair in Maryland by two black teens, while the second covered the brutal beating of a white man in Minneapolis by a dozen or so blacks.  Certainly if the races in either of these incidents had been reversed, the story would have made the international headlines and be in the news for many weeks, but instead they were totally ignored and covered-up by the major media.  The two of them attracted over 400 comments and many thousands of Facebook Likes, though these latter have had been “stolen” by the Facebook censors.

Fourth place was held by Fred Reed’s column suggesting that assimilation of our existing Hispanic immigrants is the only practical solution to America’s ongoing immigration controversy, a thesis that provoked nearly 350 contentious comments, totaling almost 40,000 words.

In fifth place was Paul Tripp’s argument that over the last few decades, the remarkable divergence between our national productivity and the share of the newly-created wealth going to ordinary workers suggests that the latter have taken it for themselves in somewhat underhanded fashion.

Finally, rounding out our most popular featured articles was Linh Dinh’s discussion of the Vietnamese business entrepreneurs who have gone to seek their fortunes in Africa, sometimes at considerable personal risk, which drew nearly 400 comments, totaling almost 50,000 words.

In late 2006 I was approached by Scott McConnell, editor of The American Conservative (TAC), who told me that his small magazine was on the verge of closing without a large financial infusion. I'd been on friendly terms with McConnell since around 1999, and greatly appreciated that he and his TAC co-founders had been providing... Read More

I have often pointed out that the Dissident Right, fervently disliking Latinos, criticizes Hispanics for all sins real or imagined but never says what policies it favor toward the tens of millions American citizens of Latin-American descent. I have to retract. Recently John Derbyshire, the star writer at the anti-immigrant site Vdare.com, has stated clearly... Read More

First, the good news. Yesterday, I spotted a new Wife Cafe, not three miles from me. Who says Vietnamese hicks aren’t innovative? With this marvelous idea, lonely bachelors the world over can stop ogling and whacking compulsively, and with their next morning joe, choose a black, white, cream or cappuccino life mate. Eternal happiness, understanding,... Read More

During many years of writing about or describing the terrible damage that the “special relationship” with Israel has done to the United States the question occasionally comes up “Given the enormous power of the Zionist lobby, what can we do to bring about change?” It is a simple question, though one that begs for multiple... The Middle-East is literally exploding: the Houthis have delivered an extremely effective blow against Saudi oil production which (so they claim) has now dropped by 50% before bouncing back; there are persistent rumors that Russian Su-35S and S-400 have threatened to shoot down Israeli aircraft attacking Syria; Lebanon has declared that it will defend itself... The conservative movement’s unwholesome obsession with Israel is not an entirely organic obsession to be sure. There is a whole lot of dark kosher oligarch money lurking behind the neoconservative cause, Christian Zionism, and the Reagan/Zioboomer battalion. Nevertheless, whether organic or not, the boomer generation’s excessive regard for Israel is today authentic and undeniable. A... Read More

The retiring president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has been unusually outspoken during his last weeks in office. He recently had a long interview with the Belgian newspaper L’Écho in which he discussed his actions and frustrations as head of the European Union. Juncker has since 2014 presided over the Greek crisis, the migrant... Read More

Earlier this month, popular ‘progressive’ news website The Intercept published an article entitled “From El Paso to Sarajevo: How White Nationalists Are Inspired by the Bosnia Genocide”, written by journalist and staff writer Murtaza Hussain. Two years ago, I asked, “Will Russia Leave the West?” The world’s largest territorial country—sprawling from its major European city St. Petersburg to its vast Far Eastern territories and long border with China—Russia cannot, of course, depart the West geographically. But it can do so politically, economically, and strategically. Indeed, where Russia belongs, where it... Read More

As writer or thinker, Jack London can’t touch George Orwell, but he’s nearly the Brit’s equal when it comes to describing society’s bottom. To both, being a writer is as much a physical as an intellectual endeavor. Wading into everything, they braved all discomforts and dangers. This attitude has become very rare, and not just... Here we go again! Israel is caught red handed spying against the United States and everyone in Congress is silent, as are nearly all the mainstream media which failed to report the story. Israelis held new snap parliamentary elections, as the previous round in April had been inconclusive. Surprise! The new round has been also inconclusive.
