Friends,
One of my top priorities as your U.S. Senator is ensuring the safety and well-being of you and your family, especially during this unprecedented time. As we entered into the new year, I got right to work introducing legislation that puts your needs at the forefront.
COVID-19 Relief Compromise
I am working hard to bring relief to North Carolinians as we continue to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. I joined nine of my Republican colleagues to outline a new COVID-19 relief proposal that we hope will gain wide bipartisan support. The plan includes relief for vaccine distribution and testing as well as help for schools, small businesses, and individuals. This week, I met with President Biden and Vice President Harris to discuss the plan. It was an excellent meeting, and we are very appreciative that in his first official meeting in the Oval Office, President Biden chose to spend so much time with us discussing the response to the COVID-19 crisis. We are hopeful that a COVID-19 relief bill will be agreed upon soon.
Committed to Protecting the Unborn
During this year’s annual March for Life, I reaffirmed my commitment to protecting our most vulnerable by co-sponsoring 12 different pro-life bills. As the Left continues to increase its attacks on the pro-life movement and the unborn, we must vigorously renew our efforts to defend the sanctity of life. Each of us has a duty to protect the most vulnerable among us, including those who are not yet born, and I will continue advocating for these innocent, unborn lives.
Stopping Sanctuary Cities
In light of President Biden’s immigration orders, I reintroduced two bills: the Immigration Detainer Enforcement Act and Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act. Both bills are commonsense legislation that will enhance public safety and hold sanctuary jurisdictions accountable for their refusal to cooperate with federal law enforcement, putting dangerous illegal criminals back into our communities.
I will continue to fight against reckless policies that would put the safety of our communities in jeopardy and will never stop working for the health, safety, and well-being of every North Carolinian.
Thank you for reading, and as always, please reach out to my office if you have any questions or need help with a federal agency. God bless.
