Dear John,

Where was this attitude last year?

Johnson argued our borders could not be shut to Europe as the UK is too reliant on EU food and medicine.

During PMQs, Johnson used the fact that 75% of UK medicines and 45% of our food are imported from EU as excuse why government can't close borders to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Funny - he wasn't so clear about UK's reliance on EU when pursuing the hardest possible Brexit. Now, leaving the EU on these terms is taking its toll on British businesses.

Outcry has come thick and fast, from Scottish fisherman to UK fashion bosses. The “temporary” ban on shellfish exports to the EU has turned out to be permanent <[link removed]>, in a potentially fatal blow to the industry and coastal communities who rely on the trade.

It is clear Johnson’s trade deal is inadequate. It is clear a radical overhaul of customs arrangements is needed. Send Best for Britain’s analysis to your MP and call on them to build on this barebones deal.

Trade in services makes up 80% of the UK economy and half our exports. Yet in the trade agreement, they barely get a mention.

Best for Britain’s campaign to get the government to stick to its promise of visa-free touring for musicians highlighted glaring omissions in the government’s agreement.

We were joined by industry giants like Simon Rattle and Elton John <[link removed]>, who warned of reduced British cultural influence.

Without concerted action, the government risks repressing trade and slowing the UK’s recovery from COVID. Send a message to your MP.

Relations between Europe and the UK have taken a knock in the last four-and-a-half years, not least in this last week.

But now it is time to start rebuilding them. <[link removed]>
