DEMOCRAT REP. KAREN BASH’S HORRIFIC HB-140 COULD BE TABLED AS PRESSURE MOUNTS
That deceitful bill eliminating mandatory sentences for child predators is getting plenty of attention. Rep. Bash says she’d accept a move to table the bill so lawmakers could “work on it.” HB-140 ([link removed]) is a horrible bill that eliminates mandatory penalties for child predators, giving judges more discretion. This bill sides with predators and fails to protect our children. The sex crimes legislation is also buried in a bill that pertains to penalties for fish and wildlife infractions. Democrats should be ashamed for writing this piece of offensive legislation.
CALL TO ACTION: Contact Rep. Bash and tell her to kill this despicable bill!

SENATE COMMITTEE THIS AFTERNOON PASSES ABORTION BILL
Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee this afternoon cleared legislation (SB 10) that would repeal New Mexico's law that criminalizes abortion. That law dates back to 1969. The legsiation, in essence, would allow late-term abortions and infanticide and provide virutally no protections for girls, women and health care workers. The vote was 6-3 along party lines. We must hold life sacred and protect the unborn. This bill now heads to the Senate Floor.
CALL TO ACTION: Contact President Pro Temper Mimi Stewart to stop this abortion legislation!

SOCIAL SECURITY TAX EXEMPTION CLEARS HOUSE COMMITTEE
The House Labor, Veterans’ & Military Affars Committee has cleared HB 49 ([link removed]) , Republican-sponsored legislation that would eliminate tax on social security income. The bill would offer tremendous relief for New Mexico senior citizens, who are already taxed heavily. This bill makes tremendous sense and would ease the financial burden on thousands of retirees. New Mexico is one of 13 states that taxes this income. The legislation now heads to the House Taxation and Revenue Committee

BILL TO LIMIT GOVERNOR'S EMERGENCY POWERS CLEARS COMMITTEE
The House State Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee today cleared HB-139 ([link removed]) , which would provide limits to emergency powers for a governor. The bill comes as a result of the Governor's continued actions during the pandemic. HB-139, a bipartisan bill, would limit emergency health orders to 90 days. After that, the Governor would have to convene a special session and get legislative approval. This bill is a must and will prevent the Governor from overstepping her authority in public emergencies.
