Democrat,

New Jersey’s two Republican members of Congress share many things in common — a complete inability to stand up to Donald Trump, a love of regressive policies that hurt working families, an affinity for tax cuts for the rich and the biggest corporations, and much more. But now Jeff Van Drew and Chris Smith are sharing something else: they both just deleted their Twitter accounts because they can't stand the heat from angry constituents.

Was it something we said?

Maybe we were a little harsh in pointing out that Jefferson "Undying Support" Van Drew helped spread Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, contributing to the Capitol insurrection that claimed multiple lives, and still pledges his undying support for Trump. Or perhaps it was because we pointed out that Chris "It may have been Antifa" Smith failed to join a handful of Republicans who did the right thing and voted to impeach Trump. These Republicans can be pretty fragile, so there’s really no telling what set them off.

Just because Van Drew and Smith have joined their favorite ex-President and left Twitter, that doesn’t mean they can hide from the damage they’ve caused to our democracy. They will always be remembered as Trump enablers who said and did nothing while that disastrous presidency took us close to the abyss, only to be dragged back up by people across the country who stood up and said enough. And Van Drew specifically, will be remembered for calling January 6 "an amazing day."

Let's keep the pressure on and make sure that voters in these districts know what Jeff Van Drew and Chris Smith did to threaten our democracy. Chip in now to help us deliver that message.
