John, Senate Democrats must vote to end the filibuster now.

The filibuster is a tool Republicans use to block critical Democratic legislation, even though Democrats control both the House and Senate.

Mitch McConnell is proudly and openly dedicated to stopping Democratic legislation — even policies favored by a vast majority of Americans. Ending the filibuster is the only way to expand voting rights, combat climate change, get big money out of politics, make D.C. a state, and win racial justice for the people of this country.

Today, we’re joined by Senator Ed Markey, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Women’s March, Sunrise Movement, and others to say: We need to end the filibuster.

Here’s what happens if Senate Democrats keep the filibuster:

• Legislation gets weaker. When we’re facing so many crises in this country, we need big, bold legislation, not conservative, watered-down efforts.
• Legislation critical to justice and equity will likely fail. DC statehood, voting rights, racial justice, and other critical issues will likely need 60 votes in the Senate if we keep the filibuster. Republicans oppose these things because they threaten their power.

There’s a reason President Obama called the filibuster a “Jim Crow relic.” Republicans will block any efforts to make this country more just and equitable for Black folks.

Senate Democrats need to take action and use their power to solve the crises we face. A critical part of that is ending the filibuster.
