41/50. That’s where Governor Baker’s chaotic rollout has put Massachusetts in national vaccination rankings. Pretty embarrassing for the state that is home to the best hospitals in the world, and even home to the maker of one of the two available vaccines.
But we’ve come to expect this mediocrity under Charlie Baker.
The vaccine is only as effective as our ability to get it into people’s arms--and that’s Baker’s biggest problem. Massachusetts has only administered 60% of our supply.
The Baker-Polito vaccine rollout has been botched since the beginning. One look at Baker’s broken vaccine website tells you everything you need to know. It can take folks weeks just to secure an appointment, only to have to travel 70 miles to the nearest vaccination site.
And the call center that should have been set-up weeks ago to assist people in securing a vaccine appointment, particularly elders that are most vulnerable to the virus, still does not exist.
Baker’s had almost a year to plan a smooth and equitable vaccination plan. Instead, he didn’t even think to implement something as basic as a vaccine information hotline until Democrats pressured him into it.
