Friend
Fossil fuel subsidies are making headlines again, but this time, we're making progress.
Fossil fuel pollution is accelerating climate change and giving people asthma, lung cancer, heart
disease, and other life-threatening health problems. And yet the federal government gives more than $20 billion in direct financial support to fossil fuel companies each year.
And if that weren't enough, a 2019 International Monetary Fund report found that when we account for the costs of pollution, the U.S. government pays well over $600 billion annually to fossil fuel corporations—a staggering sum of taxpayer dollars that these companies did not earn.
America must stop investing in pollution—and it can.
Read our new policy memo to learn how the U.S. government can stop investing in pollution so we can start investing in our clean energy future.

Momentum is on our side: Just last week, President Biden issued executive orders temporarily stopping new oil and gas permits on public lands and promising to "identify and end" all fossil fuel subsidies.
Our new memo goes into detail on how the federal government can eliminate direct financial support for the fossil fuel industry, end corporate exploitation of our public lands and waters, and ensure that corporations shoulder the full cost of the damage they cause—because the public shouldn't have to foot the bill for climate damage while fossil fuel CEOs line their pockets.
Download our new policy memo to learn how the Biden administration and Congress can stop propping up the fossil fuel industry with taxpayer dollars.

The first step in getting out of a hole is to stop digging. By stopping the flow of subsidies and special breaks to Big Polluters, we can stop the climate crisis, improve public health, and build a more just and equitable economy.
