Team,

As you know, Martin is hard at work holding Donald Trump accountable, fighting for COVID-19 relief, and confirming President Biden's Cabinet nominees. But while there's no shortage of work to do, he's not losing sight of the progress and protections Americans need.

That's why Martin is proud to support the For the People Act, a comprehensive voting rights bill that will strengthen our democracy and put power in the hands of voters. Here's what's in it:

- A federal mandate on voting rights, including automatic registration, same-day registration, 15 days of early in-person voting, no-excuse mail voting, and the restoration of voting rights to felons who have completed their sentence.

- A public financing system for congressional and presidential elections to put the power in the hands of small-dollar donors and everyday Americans.

- A ban on undisclosed spending by political nonprofits and mandatory disclosure by organizations buying political advertisements online.

- Nonpartisan redistricting boards to prevent gerrymandering.

These reforms would be a HUGE step forward for our democracy. In a system committed to enfranchising voters, the reforms should be bipartisan. But so far not a single Republican has agreed to support the For the People Act, because they know that increased voter turnout means less power for them.

Will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the For the People Act? The more of us who stand up and speak out, the more power we have to turn this bill into law:

As we now know, democracy is a fragile ideal. It's up to us to support, sustain, and protect it, and this bill is step one in making sure our democracy is fair and accessible to all Americans.

Thanks for speaking out,

-- Team Heinrich
