Wisconsin Roadside Zoo Owner and Manager Banned from Possessing and Working with Animals
A Wisconsin court permanently banned Special Memories Zoo, its owner, and manager from ever possessing or exhibiting animals — other than the dogs kept as their “personal pets” — again or working with any business that does so. The Animal Legal Defense Fund sued the zoo for keeping tigers, lemurs, and other animals in squalid conditions that violate the Endangered Species Act (ESA) as well as state laws protecting captive wild animals.
Kim Basinger Urges Craigslist to Ban Posts with Animals
As part of the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s ongoing campaign, animal protection advocate and actress Kim Basinger sent a letter to Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster with an urgent request the company end all animal posts on its platform to protect animals from cruelty.
The Big Cat Public Safety Act Reintroduced in the House of Representatives
The Big Cat Public Safety Act (H.R. 263) has been reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would help end the rampant abuse of tigers and other big cats in captivity by prohibiting the private possession of big cats and making it illegal for exhibitors to allow direct contact with cubs.
