Dear Friend -
Every single day, families around the world are forced to leave their homes in search of safety and a better life. Fleeing conflict and violence, poverty and persecution, many escape with nothing but the clothes on their back.
Crossing borders and oceans, they set their sights on Lady Liberty and put their hopes and dreams in the United States of America, a country founded by immigrants and enriched by those who have arrived on its shores.
They are ordinary people like you and me who have been forced to leave everything in search of security for their families. Despite numerous challenges, they make the sacrifice, summon the courage, and continue their quest for freedom and safety.
Yesterday, President Trump closed America's door, declaring that he would resettle a dismal 18,000 refugees in the US.
With the number of displaced people across the globe at an all-time high - more than 70 million, twice as many people as 20 years ago, including 26 million refugees - there has never been a more important moment for America to double down and commit to protecting the world's most vulnerable people.
That's why we need every candidate for President to tell us where they stand on refugee resettlement and make clear what they would do if they are President in 2021.

The President sets the target number of refugees to be resettled in the US every September through a formal Presidential Determination. In the final year of the previous administration, President Obama committed to resettle 110,000 refugees, well short of our nation's fair share given the global crisis, but in-line with historical averages. Since 2017, the Trump administration has worked to systematically turn America's back on refugees, resettling just 22,491 people in the last fiscal year and on track to admit fewer than 30,000 again this year.
We must fight this.
Join us to demand that every Presidential candidate commits to resettle at least 125,000 refugees in 2021.

We must not pit ourselves against one another or blame the most vulnerable among us. We must treat refugees and migrants with compassion, offer them help when they need it, and protect their rights. We must stand up for the shared humanity in us all. We must all work to restore America as a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable people. We must stand up for Dignity for All.
Take action now and demand that every Presidential candidate pledges to restore America's status as a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable and commits to resettle at least 125,000 refugees in the 2021 Presidential Determination.
There is so much at stake and now is the time to fight for what we believe in - dignity, compassion, human rights, and equality.
Sincerely,
Gina Cummings
