Hello,

Over 150 years ago today, the Constitution officially prohibited denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's "race, color, or previous condition of servitude." It was nearly half a century later before white women secured the right to vote, and over fifty years after that when Black voters finally secured voter protections through the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Black folks have been organizing against voter suppression for generations. On the frontlines of that fight are leaders like Stacey Abrams in Georgia and former attorney general Eric Holder.

The vote is the most powerful tool we have to shape our democracy. It's why our forebears risked their lives to defend it and even died for it.

Partisan redistricting efforts are robbing our communities of their voice. The Supreme Court decision to gut the Voting Rights Act has allowed states to pass racist voter suppression laws. But The Collective is dedicated to expanding access to the ballot box through our Vote To Live initiative because as Eric Holder said, protecting the right to vote is a moral imperative.

Voter suppression doesn't steal votes from candidates. It robs citizens of choice -- especially Black and brown Americans. We won't stop fighting until every American has equal access to the polls. If you're with us in defending the right to vote, add your name.
