Folks —

For years, Republicans have suppressed the right to vote by purging voter rolls, promoting discriminatory voter ID laws, and gerrymandering districts in their favor. Because they believe the more Americans who make their voices heard in our democracy, the worse their chances are at winning.

Let that sink in. Republicans have latched themselves on to Donald Trump and weaponized his baseless lies of voter fraud to further their own political gain. Now, more than 100 bills have already been introduced this year to restrict access to the ballot box in 28 states.

Even though Trump has left the White House, his destructive legacy remains. We have a long road ahead to undo his damage — and we must use every ounce of energy we have to stop Republicans from further destroying our democracy.

We must fight back with the truth — that is why I’m supporting the For the People Act to protect access to the ballot box. This comprehensive reform is long overdue. With Democrats now in the majority, we can finally pass this critical piece of legislation, but it will come down to every last vote.
