Folks,
Yesterday, my 4th grader sent me a goodbye text.
“Mom I love you.”
She told me that her Cobb County public school was under lockdown -- an active shooter lockdown. She said it wasn’t a drill.
Thank goodness it was a false alarm, and my daughter, her classmates, and the school staff were safe, but I am still furious about it, folks. I’m furious that my daughter, at barely ten years old, knew enough about the realities of school shootings in America to text me that she loved me -- just in case.
I’m furious that there are politicians in our country, in our state, and one in particular in a congressional district just a few miles from my kids’ school, who
deny that those school shootings happen.
I’m furious that there is a representative from Georgia who believes that guns belong in any building in America.
I’m furious that there’s a congresswoman who won’t prioritize working to protect students.
Who -- despite all this -- serves on the House Committee on Education and Labor.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is Georgia’s shame, and she should resign -- now. Even Mitch McConnell called her a cancer on the Republican Party. We can’t allow that cancer to spread to our state and local government.
We need to mitigate the harm Greene can do in D.C. by electing progressive state and local leaders who will serve our interests with honesty, integrity, and truth in mind.
We need leaders we can count on. That’s why OAD is committed to helping to elect progressive women to state and local office in 2022 and beyond.
If you’re able, help keep politicians like Marjorie Taylor Greene out of state and local office by chipping in $5, or any amount, to power OAD’s mission of electing qualified, rational state and local officials here in Georgia.
