By: Bruce Hausknecht |
On Monday, President Trump hosted and spoke at the United Nations’ Global Call to Protect Religious Freedom event. The President was introduced by Vice-President Mike Pence, who also prefaced his introduction with a recap of international human rights abuses against various religious groups. The purpose of the event was to draw attention to persecution around the world against people of faith, and to seek cooperation from nations in combating it.
“There’s no better time for a meeting like this on the world stage,” the Vice-President declared in his remarks. “As we gather here at the United Nations, more than 80 percent of the world’s population live in nations where religious freedom is threatened or banned.” |

Thomas Jefferson is often quoted as saying, “We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.” Though the quote is likely spurious, there is still much truth expressed in the sentiment. Those who vote hold the power to direct American governance.
Our tradition of voting is as old as the American republic because our government is created by, of and for the people. Voting is our method of holding the government accountable to the people. Citizens can throw out officials who aren’t representing them well and elect new people who accurately reflect their voice. |

Maryland Judge Upholds Government Censorship of Free Speech |
By: Jeff Johnston |
U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow upheld government censorship of talk therapy for minors with unwanted homosexuality or transgenderism. Christopher Doyle, a licensed psychotherapist, challenged the Maryland therapy ban, claiming it was an unconstitutional abridgement of free speech and of a client’s right to self-determination.
In making the decision, the judge ignored key points made by Doyle and Liberty Counsel, who filed the suit on his behalf. Liberty Counsel is a non-profit legal, education and policy group that works to protect religious freedom, human life and families. Here is some of what the judge missed. |
