Friends,
This week is National Gun Violence Survivors Week. It's a reminder that all of us are touched by gun violence. It's also a week for us to reflect and move forward together to create a positive change towards a more peaceful future.
For many, it's a time to share their stories and remember their loved ones who are no longer here with us. For so many others, it's a time to listen and be supportive.
For us at Giffords, this week is a reminder why this organization was created in the first place. Just over 10 years ago in Tucson, a gunman shot and killed six people, injured 13 others, including our founder, Gabby Giffords, who was shot in the head. Gabby survived, but she will be forever bonded to her fellow survivors whose lives will never be the same.
Whether you've personally felt the impact of gun violence or not, there are so many ways you can support survivors.
Listening is a start, but sharing the human impact of gun violence along with the data to support it explains to others the need to make our communities safer.
That's something we hope to do, especially this week, but also every day as we carry the memories of our loved ones with us as we fight for change.
So today, if you are able, make a donation during National Gun Violence Survivors Week to honor those who have been lost and create a safer future for every community in this country.
Every life lost to gun violence is a tragedy. But we have an opportunity to take that tragedy and fight for a better future. We can honor those that were taken too soon, and protect those who are still here.
We can do it, but only together. Because there are too many out there who want to stop us, or divide us. But if we come together, as a community, as a family, we can secure the change we so desperately need.
Thank you for being a part of this team, today and every day.
Team Giffords
