Good Wednesday morning, and happy 35th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, a day to champion female athletes and to recognize the power of sports to unlock female potential. This year, it is more important than ever that we recognize the importance of women’s sports and single-sex athletic competition.  🎾🏀🏑⚽Read IWF's statement.
High school track star speaking out: Alanna Smith is a high school track athlete from Connecticut who has been forced to compete against biological males who identify as females. In her state, two biological male athletes have won 15 women’s track championship titles, leaving Alanna and other girls robbed of athletic opportunities and potential scholarships. Watch Alanna's interview with IWF.

PROGRESS IS IN JEOPARDY

Policymakers Must Protect Single-Sex Sports

Since the passage of Title IX in 1972, there has been an explosion in women’s sports participation. We want those numbers to grow even more, because athletic participation is associated with improved physical and mental health, greater confidence, higher educational attainment, and better life outcomes. And we want the best future for our girls.
  • But thanks to a new executive order signed by President Joe Biden that progress now is in jeopardy. Schools will be forced to allow male athletes and transgender women (who were born male) to try out for and compete on women’s teams. What that means.

  • More female athletes are speaking out... Two Idaho track stars are fighting the ACLU to protect women’s sports. Watch their story.

  • Champion Message: "Title IX is being weakened by some states who are misinterpreting Title IX, creating uncertainty, undue hardship, and lost opportunities for female athletes. It is critical that the legacy of Title IX continues to ensure women and girls in sports have the opportunity to compete and excel on a level playing field." Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI)

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Defend Female Athletes

Speak up to protect female athletes from the dangerous effects of President Biden’s executive order. It’s regressive for women’s rights. It is downright dangerous to biological women. And it will result in lost opportunities for female athletes.
  • Share Your Story: How do you feel about this executive order? How do you fear it will impact female athletes and women’s sports as a whole? What does being, raising, or watching a female athlete mean to you? We want to hear from you.

    • Deb E. says, "Women have come too far and worked too hard to earn their places on athletic fields for it to be taken away with the stroke of a pen."

HURTING NOT HELPING

Biden’s Climate Executive Orders Are Limiting Opportunities

President Biden's multiple executive orders aimed at combatting climate change fail to recognize the economic impacts of taking away reliable energy sources. While Biden administration officials have argued that the jobs in the traditional energy sector will simply be replaced by new ones in the renewable sector, they fail to account for the cost of job losses during a pandemic, the time it takes to train workers in new positions, and the fact that, for individuals who have been working in oil for their entire lives, they will have greater difficulty finding new jobs and learning new skills.

TWO TRUTHS & A LIE

Ranked Choice Voting

Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is an election system where voters rank candidates in order of preference, rather than simply select one person.

Can you identify which of the following statements about RCV is not true?
A.  In ranked-choice elections, if a voter’s first choice gets knocked out, their ballot is redistributed to the candidate they marked second.

Censorship Creep on Social Media

Recently, several social media accounts started to make alarming announcements. Products they sold—some of which they had sold for months—were suddenly rated “not approved” on Instagram and Facebook, prohibiting their sale. The common denominator? No, not something political. They were all Catholic.

Wage Bill Reconciliation

The panic from tipped workers over the minimum wage hike is starting to come to a boil. The Biden administration has progressed the national $15 minimum wage bill to include eliminating tip credits. Tipped workers are beginning to worry that this means tipping will become obsolete as the minimum wage is incrementally raised.
