Happy Black History Month! February is an opportunity to learn about, honor, and celebrate the Black voices that have helped shape our history and future. Join us on February 16th [[link removed]] for a social hour dedicated to celebrating Black excellence as well as a forum on February 23rd [[link removed]] about Black legacy in Arlington and beyond.
In addition, thank you again to everyone who came out last week to our AYD January Meeting! It was great to hear platforms and have Q&A sessions with guest speakers Xavier Warren and Sean Perryman, both primary candidates for Lieutenant Governor, as well Senator Jennifer McClellan, a primary candidate for Governor. We appreciate you taking the time to come and talk to us!
We also had a ton of new folks show up who were ready to go as we jumped into establishing our policy platforms for the year with our caucus reorganization. Thank you to everyone who applied for a caucus chair position and we will be announcing our new chairs in the next several days. In the meantime, join one of our six AYD Caucus Facebook Groups today! AYD Social Hour: Celebrating Black Excellence [[link removed]]
In celebration of Black History Month, join AYD for a social hour dedicated to Black excellence.
This event will consist of a series of short videos and discussion, allowing us an opportunity to honor and celebrate the Black voices that continue to change history.
In the words of President Barack Obama, "Black History Month is about the lived, shared experience of all African Americans, high and low, famous and obscure, and how those experiences have shaped and challenged and ultimately strengthened America. It’s about taking an unvarnished look at the past so we can create a better future. It’s a reminder of where we as a country have been so that we know where we need to go."
