Donald Trump’s own impeachment lawyers recently quit, and some reporting indicated it was because they refused to go along with Trump’s preference of continuing to lie about election fraud as a defense — despite there being no evidence to back up his unAmerican lie.

This is the latest signal that the GOP continues to put the interests of Donald Trump ahead of American democracy. It means we need to be ready for anything when the trial begins.

The GOP has a clear choice: they can honor their oath to defend the Constitution by holding President Trump responsible for his actions, or they can once again prove that they are a party that doesn’t respect American values.

Republicans should no longer be allowed to talk about patriotism without getting laughed out of the room if they fail to hold President Trump accountable for attempting to unleash a coup to overturn a free and fair election with no evidence.
