Hi Friend --

Last month tested the very core of our democracy. It also ushered in a new era of leadership and re-invigorated hope in our democracy - made possible by years of work by local activists, organizers, and leaders.

Yet there is still work to do.

The lessons and stories from Black History Month teach us all year, every year how to build a country that works for everyone. If we want to repair and strengthen our democracy, then we must begin with long-term investments in new voices and new leaders.

Leaders who understand inequities and injustices - and the way forward. Leaders who come together across identities, issues, and industries to build a new version of America. Leaders who center equity and progress in all that they do.

This past month, we trained over 800 cross-sector, local leaders as they began their six-month NLC fellowship. They join a community of over 9,000 NLC alumni who are creating new chapters in the American story.

We are also beginning a new chapter at NLC. Tomorrow, Karen Pandy-Cherry (NLC Broward ‘16) joins us as our new Vice President of Programs. Karen, a co-founder of the NLC Black Caucus and a local chapter board member, brings her passion for community development to the national staff, where she will be responsible for the strategy and implementation of all NLC programming.

And because it’s never too early to invest in leadership, we’re opening up nominations for the 2022 NLC fellowship now. Do you know a leader in your community that would benefit from NLC's leadership development training? Nominate them today: [link removed].

Finally, in March, we will begin launching our new strategic plan and brand. There has never been a better time to tell NLC’s story. We are excited to share our vision of the future with you.

In the meantime, we hope that you will continue to support our work and community of change makers: [link removed]

Onward,
