Born and raised in New Orleans, Karen Carter Peterson has always championed progressive values— even in one of the reddest states.

When leaders of her party were joining anti-choice Republicans to strip a women’s right to reproductive health, Karen fought to protect a woman’s right to choose because she understands that reproductive justice is an issue you do not compromise on.

And when former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal refused to expand health care, Karen fought to expand Medicaid as a member of the Obama White House Health Care Taskforce. Now today, an additional half a million Louisianans have health insurance, access to primary care, and pay lower out-of-pocket health care costs.

Ever since Karen Carter Peterson ran for the Louisiana State House at the age of 29, she has dedicated her life to public service. Another reason why it's no surprise Stacey Abrams recently endorsed Karen.

Karen will fight for a living wage, Medicare for all, and criminal justice reform in the halls of Congress but with a March 20th primary election date, we need all hands on deck to win this election.

In 2012 Karen beat an incumbent to become the first woman to be the chairperson of the Louisiana Democratic Party and then in 2017, Karen was elected vice-chair of civic engagement and voter protection at the Democratic National Committee.

Now, in 2021 Karen would not only be the first Black woman to represent her district, but she’d also be the first Black woman to EVER represent Louisiana in Congress.

Karen understands the progressive change we need and has the experience to get it done.

If we’re going to make real change in this country, we have to run and win everywhere, and that starts with electing real progressives like Karen in states like Louisiana.

With only a little over a month until the special election, this is going to be an uphill fight. Karen’s opponents have the backing of the corporate establishment. That means Karen is going to need overwhelming grassroots support to win this primary.
