The 117th Congress is underway, and the American people have placed their trust in us to move past the vitriol and gridlock of the last four years and get to work for the people.

And we have a lot of work to do. Every day I see real people, families and businesses struggling to make ends meet. We have tough challenges ahead, but our foundation's very fabric is built on the fact we are a democracy and a government that can work.

It isn't going to be easy, and we are going to have to work together as a team to rebuild our economy, end the coronavirus pandemic and deliver on our promises.

Here are a few of our top priorities as we get back to work for the people:

1. COVID relief plan that would include another round of direct stimulus payments, another round of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, extended federal unemployment benefits, increased funding for the national vaccine program, support our schools, address food insecurity and support state and local governments

2. Expand and improve the Affordable Care Act.

3. Reduce prescription drug prices.

4. Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to make voting easier, not harder and protect people from voter suppression.

5. Enhance background checks on firearms.

6. Pass the Equality Act to prohibit discrimination based on sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.

7. Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to secure equal pay for equal work.

8. Pass the For the People Act to expand voting rights and election security measures, establish independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions, address campaign finance reform, and strengthen our government's ethics rules.

9. Combat and address climate change.

10. Support manufacturers, businesses and workers to ensure that our future is made in America by all of America's workers.

With a Democratic President and a majority in the House and Senate we must deliver real results. President Joe Biden has laid out a clear path to lead our country out of the pandemic and build our country back better. We're ready to deliver and move forward.

Our work is just beginning.
