Car Store saved
I am very pleased to hear from the owners Pendragon, that the Car Store in Chilwell Meadows will remain open and is not one of 200 sites that will close. I hope their planning application will be successful so that the business works better for local residents as well as customers.

Chilwell School Visit
I visited Chilwell School this morning and fully support their ambitions for a new school. The buildings were constructed as part of a wave of new schools in the late sixties and early seventies in Nottinghamshire, including my old school in Worksop the Hartland Comprehensive. Known as clasp buildings, they are simply no longer fit for purpose and I think Chilwell is one of the last surviving secondary school buildings of its type in the county. With vital repairs estimated to cost £9 million it makes considerably more sense to build a modern, eco-efficient school for the considerable benefit of students and staff. I will accordingly be writing to the Secretary of State for Education and Notts County Council.

Congratulations to the owner Hisham Kalam and all the staff of The Fabric Place in Beeston on 50 years in business. I was delighted to attend the celebrations with our Mayor Councillor Mick Brown, Claire-Louise Hardie from the TV programme Sewing Bee and of course Hisham.

£18K win for Stapleford Town FC
Popular football Club Stapleford Town has been awarded over £18,000 to improve its facilities. Changing rooms will be updated and there will be new dugouts and railings. The funding has come from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund which is mainly funded by the Premier League.

Parliament
The decision of the Supreme Court to quash the unlawful suspension of Parliament came as a pleasant surprise. The House of Commons resumed work on Wednesday morning and discussed a number of important matters, including the collapse of the Thomas Cook travel company and our preparedness (or otherwise) for Brexit.
The Prime Minister then gave a statement; I have already described his language and demeanour and the reaction from many of us to it. Such was my concern I made a point of order which you can watch here.
