Hey John,
Join us this Saturday at our weekly Meetup to hear important news updates from our community and the animal rights movements. This week, we will hear from our guest speakers Deirdre and Andrew about microsanctuaries! Deirdre and Andrew both care for rescued animals and will be sharing with us what microsanctuaries are, what life is like at a microsanctuary, and how to start one right in your own homes! The Meetup: Intro to Microsanctuaries will be taking place this Saturday, February 6th at 11AM. See the event page for Zoom link instructions.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted).
- Friday, February 5th, 10AM: Animal Shelter Volunteer Day - *Space limited to 10 people, please confirm by reaching out Kitty Jones or replying to this email if you are attending* The Jelly's Place animal shelter saves lives every single day! And they need a team to help with cleaning, organizing, socializing dogs, socializing cats, and other tasks! Please wear a mask and respect physical distancing. We will meet at Jelly's Place: 2905 San Pablo Dam Road, San Pablo, CA 94803.
- Saturday, February 6th, 1PM: Dog Park Day - To many, this activist community and the friendships we've made in DxE are very important to us! So let's hangout! Please bring your dog if they are friendly with other dogs. Please note we are following COVID-19 precautions and ask that everyone wear a face mask and since this is an outdoor space it will be easier for us to maintain social distance. We are meeting at Point Isabel: 2701 Isabel St, Richmond, CA.
- Saturday, February 6th, 5PM: Online Consent Training - Growing up few of us ever receive proper sex education and even fewer learn about consent and healthy relationships. Respect and consent are crucial to our relationships as humans and even more important to our connections as activists. We strive to have a community in which people feel able to take action, that's why we have a Code of Conduct (dxe.io/conduct) that explains how we should treat one another. Kitty Jones will be leading this training, in which you will learn what consent is and how to maintain consent in all relationships. As well as what constitutes unacceptable behavior in DxE, how to report this, and the consequences of such behavior. Please see the event page for Zoom link instructions.
- Sunday, February 7th, 11:30AM: January Chapter Meeting: DxE SF Bay Area - Help us shape the direction of the local DxE community. This is the most important meeting we hold each month and it is a place for discussion, strategic planning, and decision making. All current and prospective chapter members in the DxE SF Bay Area chapter are encouraged to attend. Please see the details in the event page for Zoom instructions.
- Monday, February 8th, 6:30PM: Open Rescue Training Part 1: The Basics, Videography and On Camera Person - Join us via zoom for an introductory training into our open rescue procedure. This is part one of a three part series. In this training we will be covering the basics that all potential OR team members need to know. We will also be covering the roles of videographer and on camera person. Part two will cover the basics and the role of animal care person. Part three covers the basics and the roles of driver and lookout. Attend each section to get a well rounded overview of the skills and knowledge needed to be an open rescue team member. Please see the details in the event page for Zoom instructions.
