Dear Friend,

This month we’ve been sharing ways to support people in recovery and fight the opioid epidemic. Now, I want to share my story.

Thirty years ago, I was a ninth-grade dropout, homeless and hopelessly addicted to drugs. I didn’t think my life could change. I was arrested and charged with four felonies and three misdemeanors, and I was on the fast track to spending the rest of my life behind bars.

I’m here to say that there is cause for hope. Hope that we can end the hurtful stigma of addiction and give other people the opportunity to change their lives.

With the support of my family and community, I was given the opportunity to change my life. Now, thirty years later, the work I do every day at the Clinton Foundation helps bring community leaders together to fight the opioid epidemic.

Continue reading my story and learn ways to support people in recovery.

Thank you,

Chris Thrasher
Senior Director of Substance Use Disorders & Recovery
