Governor Abbott just gave the Texas state of the state address on prime time TV. Aside from patting himself on the back, he failed to mention much about what Texans are actually facing.
The fact is that over 37,000 Texans have died from COVID-19, thousands are facing unemployment, and many remain uninsured. The coronavirus has, as medical experts predicted in early 2020, battered our state.
Ginny Goldman, one of our board members said:
“The state of the state is frail with Governor Abbott at the helm. At every stage of the pandemic from safety measures to vaccine distributions, Abbott refuses to act in the interest of the people who live and work in Texas. Instead, Abbott has allowed big corporate donors to sit in the place of doctors and medical professionals in the state’s coronavirus pandemic response. Texans have been hurting every day over the last 11 months, thousands are sick or have died, Abbott must answer for his politically calculated cruelness. Texans will not forget and will continue to stand up to Greg Abbott’s failed leadership.”
Indeed, Abbott has failed Texas repeatedly over the last year. That’s why we started this organization--to hold Abbott accountable.
When Texas was weathering its darkest hour, when we needed a leader more than we ever have, Greg Abbott was asleep at the wheel. His dereliction has left 37,000 Texas families trying to pick up the pieces.
