John, I had to bump this up in your inbox. It's official: The Trump administration plans to reduce the annual refugee cap to 18,000 in the coming fiscal year.
We've welcomed more than 40,000 refugees to Clarkston (check out my Buzzfeed News op-ed below to get the full story), and now Trump wants to limit the entire country to a mere 18,000 refugees. This is appalling and unacceptable.
Our diversity is our strength, here in Clarkston and in every community across the nation. This is why I'm running for Senate.
In solidarity,
Ted
Hey John -- I want to share a story with you.
(My finance team… isn’t thrilled that I don’t want to ask you for money instead, given the looming FEC deadline. But this is an important story!)
As you’ve probably heard, the Trump Administration wants to basically shut down the program that allows communities like ours here in Clarkston to welcome refugees. It’s a moral disaster.
I wanted to share the incredible impact more than 40,000 refugees have made on Clarkston with the world, to sound an alarm about how much this morally abhorrent decision would hurt everyone who calls this country home.
Buzzfeed News let me share Clarkston’s story -- I hope you’ll take a minute to read it: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/tedterry/how-refugees-made-our-city-great-clarkston-georgia
Then, if you’re as fired up as I am about this, join me to do something about it. Agitate. Spread the word. Write to your representatives and senators. (Hell, make my finance team’s day and donate to help me replace one of your senators!)
As I’ve said before, to change everything, it takes all of us. I’m glad you’re here.
In solidarity,
Ted
