Dear John,

“A person can’t bring their full self to work if they can’t be their full self outside their job.” That was Equality Ohio Executive Director Alana Jochum’s message during her FEDtalk at this year’s Leadership Conference.

Ohio Business Competes, a nonpartisan coalition of more than 800 businesses fighting for non-discrimination protections at the state level in Ohio, has become the national model for other organizations on how to amplify our work for LGBTQ equality.

With a gift of $10 today, you will help Equality Federation and Equality Ohio make connections across the states and across the nation with business partners. All donations made today will be split between Equality Ohio and Equality Federation.

Partnering with businesses across the state in an authentic way can have far-reaching impact on the fight for equality. And it’s not only the right thing to do—business leaders know it’s the economically smart thing to do. Just last week 50+ fashion industry brands like the Gap, Coach, and Kate Spade publicly pledged their support for equality.

Equality Ohio’s willingness to impart their knowledge about coalition-building with other Equality Federation state partners is one of the reasons our movement is growing stronger and stronger.

Equality Ohio knows real change is created when advocates work with businesses to create a welcoming, competitive, and inclusive environment where every employee and customer feels valued and respected. As Alana said in her presentation, “Businesses aren’t going to attract or retain top talented LGBTQ people who lose their rights on their commute.”

In solidarity,

Ian Palmquist
Senior Director of Programs

P.S. This is how we achieve equality for all: one person, one business, one state at a time. Please make a gift today to help Equality Ohio and Equality Federation win in the places we call home.
