** Leadership Election Set for Saturday, March 13
------------------------------------------------------------
A few good Teton County Democrats are needed to fill open leadership positions. If you're willing to step up to ensure democracy at the ground level, please call Marylee at (307) 413-9507.
Two current officers are willing to continue in leadership positions, but other seats remain open. If you're interested in local and state policymaking, and care about the principles of the Teton County Democratic Party platform ([link removed]) , please consider taking on this role. You're needed!
Teton Dems, as mandated by law, will hold leadership elections during the month of March. All precinct committee officers (PCOs), who comprise the county central committee, will receive Zoom invites prior to the election on Saturday, March 13.
If you're not a member of the central committee but would like to attend, please email
[email protected] (mailto:
[email protected]) to get on the invite list. Only PCOs will be allowed to cast votes.
Members of the county central committee may deputize, by signed proxy, substitutes to act for them at any meeting, but such substitutes must be registered Democrats residing in the precinct which their principals represent.
Any member of the county central committee may vote their own and one additional proxy from the same precinct. A proxy holder who is not a member shall have only one vote and shall not be entitled to vote other proxies. Email us to get a proxy form.
** Dems Overtake Republicans in Registered Teton County Voters
------------------------------------------------------------
For the first time in known history, Democrats now comprise a majority of registered voters in Teton County. As of today, 6,557 Dems are registered to vote in our county, compared to 5,890 Republicans according to the Wyoming Secretary of State.
In September 2020, we were just 11 registered Democrats shy of overtaking the Republicans: Dems, 5,533, to GOP, 5,544.
In October 2020, we overtook them with Dems, 5,997, to GOP, 5,642.
By the November 3 election day, 6,434 Democrats had registered compared to 5,773 Republicans.
Unaffiliated voters also rose from 2,770 in January 2020 to 3,497 by election day.
The Biden/Harris ticket received 9,848 votes in Teton County with 67% of of the total 14,787 votes cast, perhaps providing insight into how unaffiliated voters voted.
** Successful Get-Out-the-Vote Campaigns
------------------------------------------------------------
Teton Dems' new lead in registered voters was boosted by various get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts in the late summer and fall.
We conducted a voter registration campaign from early August until two weeks before the November general election, registering voters on site at Smith's grocery store and answering many, many questions about voters' options.
With the help of local business Chadwick Content, we also put together a robust digital campaign across Facebook, Instagram and Google. Funded by generous local donors, the campaign focused on the theme, “Live Here, Love Here, Vote Here," and targeted different voter groups in English and Spanish.
The campaign attracted 1,441 unique page views of an English voter information page on our website, and another 132 unique page views of the respective page in Spanish. We also generated just under 500 unique page views each of our town (479 views) and county candidates (485 views) pages, where voters could learn more about their Democratic candidates.
GOTV was also supported by numerous local nonprofits as well as the State of Wyoming, which used CARES Act funding to promote the state’s largest GOTV effort in recent history: Let’s Vote Wyo.
** Virtual State Legislature Gets Underway
------------------------------------------------------------
Teton Dems always make an effort to keep you informed of what's going on in the Wyoming State Legislature. This year will be more challenging due to the legislature’s confusing and disjointed plan for conducting its business in the time of COVID-19.
The 2021 session got underway two weeks ago over Zoom to consider bills worked on by joint committees over the interim and then assign them to one chamber or the other.
Bills that pass committee will move on to the full chamber during an eight-day virtual session between January 27 and February 5. After the virtual session, the legislature will reconvene, either virtually or in person, for the month of March.
Any bills that are still alive at the end of the eight-day virtual session, but haven’t yet been passed by both chambers, will return at that time.
We expect to see lots of new bills considered, too. Teton Dems will provide regular updates during the March session.
Our elected officials are currently scheduling public presentations to provide an update. They will tentatively present to the Jackson Hole Rotary Club on February 9 and to the town and county on February 10. We will send out more info when we know more.
