Introducing the Climate Corporate Accountability Act!

We are so proud to announce that CLCV will be sponsoring legislation this year! That is Senate Bill 260, introduced by California State Senator Scott Wiener, the Climate Corporation Accountability Act which will require major corporations who do business in California and make over $1 billion annually to publicly disclose their full carbon footprint in a way that is understandable and accessible to the public.

The bill will require those major corporations to set science-based emission reduction targets in order to avoid global temperature increases over 1.5 degrees Celsius, which is what the world’s leading climate scientists say is what is necessary in order to avoid catastrophic climate change. California's climate plan must include holding corporate polluters accountable who are responsible for the majority of the world’s pollution and must be based on science, which is why we are so proud to sponsor legislation that does exactly that.

The Biden/Harris team is already making big strides on climate action with executive orders to protect 30% of our land and water by 2030 and halt all federal oil and gas leases, and here in California we are setting new benchmarks for what’s next for the federal government and others states – because that’s what we do! First in the nation legislation was introduced today and CLCV is proud to sponsor the Climate Corporate Accountability Act.

We hope you’ll join us in this fight!

We believe that radical change is necessary and only by transforming our political system will we create the opportunity to take bold action on climate change. We elect and cultivate environmental champions, turn election victories into policy wins, hold our lawmakers accountable, and build political power for change. We inspire hope and action and fight for equity and justice for all Californians. We are in the business of changing what’s possible.
