We're cohosting this learning and action with the Labor Network for Sustainability.
Two wonderful guest speakers will be joining us: Traceé Strum-Gilliam is a national expert on environmental justice with 24 years of experience in transportation engineering and outreach. Barry Wilson is on the Executive Board of the Amalgamated Transit Union (Local Chapter 689) and has worked for WMATA for 21 years.
This is a great opportunity for us to learn about transportation equity and sustainability right here in DC. Inadequate public transportation continues to disadvantage communities of color, including right here in Washington DC. Inadequate public transportation also harms our climate. Transportation is the largest source of emissions in the United States, and most of these emissions stem from private vehicles.
