As detailed in another strong editorial by the Star Tribune [1], Minnesota's largest newspaper, the Biden administration should renew the push to protect the Boundary Waters.

Yesterday, January 31, the Star Tribune published an editorial urging the Biden-Harris Administration to renew the push to protect Minnesota's Boundary Waters from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining on the edge of the Boundary Waters, America's most visited Wilderness.

The editorial urges immediate action by the current administration to complete the 20-year mining ban that was abruptly canceled by the Trump administration.

As stated by the Star Tribune Editorial Board: “President Joe Biden has committed to an extraordinary measure to protect the nation's natural resources — signing an executive order on Wednesday that aims to conserve 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.”

“One of the first steps in making this "30 by 30" plan a reality ought to be completing the vital work interrupted by the Trump administration — preventing irreparable harm to northeastern Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). This beloved, fragile ecosystem is endangered. The Chilean-owned mining conglomerate Antofagasta wants to open an underground 20,000-ton-per-day copper mine called Twin Metals on the edge of a lake whose waters drain into the BWCA.”

This is our chance. With a Biden-Harris Administration that respects facts, law and science, we have a very real opportunity ahead of us to permanently protect the Boundary Waters Wilderness, but we need your help. Will you join us in becoming a monthly donor today?

Your generosity fuels our work with decision-makers to stop sulfide-ore copper mining in this place. Becoming a monthly donor is the most effective and sustainable way to financially support the Campaign in 2021. Let’s get across the finish line together -- please make a sustaining gift today.

As the Star Tribune editorial put it, “clean water and conservation are part of 'our way of life' in Minnesota.” Please join the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters today as a monthly donor, and we are one step closer to protecting Minnesota’s cleanest water.
