A Deep Dive Into
Guatemala’s
Criminal Dynamics
and Its Borders

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 2, when InSight Crime holds a discussion on cross-border criminal dynamics in Guatemala. The seminar kicks off a series of talks from our two-year investigation into crime and corruption in the Northern Triangle countries and in the Southern Cone’s Tri-Border Area – two of Latin America’s trafficking hotspots.

During this event, Co-director Steven Dudley and InSight Crime investigators will present an interactive online dashboard that maps criminal groups and activities -- such as cocaine, arms and people trafficking -- in Guatemala’s border provinces. They will also discuss an investigation from the Guatemalan Pacific that tells the story of Moyuta, Jutiapa, a town through which cocaine routinely moves and whose bloody politics is fueled by the drug trade.

The discussion will be moderated by Marielos Monzón, coordinator ([link removed]) of the Ciclos de Actualización para Periodistas, a Guatemala-based program that provides journalists with investigative training. The seminar begins at 5 p.m. Guatemala Time and will be broadcast live in Spanish on YouTube ([link removed]) and in English on Facebook ([link removed]) .
