John – as I wrote in my previous email, our campaign is facing a milestone fundraising deadline at the end of the month.

I already have three declared Republican opponents. Other potential opponents are likely to make their decisions about whether or not to enter the race in the next couple of months, since the fourth (and final) quarter of the year is when potential candidates often make their decisions.

We can influence their decisions RIGHT NOW.

One of the most effective ways to dissuade potential opponents is to post high grassroots fundraising numbers. If we make it clear right now that this campaign has the backing of THE PEOPLE, potential opponents will think twice about jumping in – and the national and local GOP will think twice about putting serious resources behind an opposition.

Of course, the GOP is likely to dump some money into this district either way – it has been marked a “frontline” race, which means all sides will be closely watching what unfolds.
