Senate spending bill moving. Terrible riders attached

Friend — there's been a significant development in the Senate. As the impeachment inquiry proceeds, the Senate is still in the hot seat to quickly approve a series of must-pass budget bills or face a government shutdown in November.

The Interior-EPA budget has just been voted out of committee.

We are hearing that (guided by Trump) there will be attempts to add more atrocious riders to the package. And the bill already contains riders: Gutting sage grouse protections. Granting waivers to polluters in Alaska to operate incinerators without meeting standards. An attempt to juke carbon emission stats by declaring biomass emissions "neutral" on carbon.

We need your help. This could be the biggest environmental showdown this year. With the Senate controlled by Republicans, we need a major push to make sure anti-environment riders don't make it into the final funding bill.

Please friend — can the League of Conservation Voters count on your support? Even $5 would make a huge difference. Please chip in today»

And there's more you should know: One of LCV's major donors is chipping in and TRIPLE MATCHING every gift through the September 30th deadline.

This is a fight we can win. This summer, we beat back the worst of the attacks in the House. Opening up the Arctic and our coastlines to oil drilling — blocking rules to limit carbon pollution from power plants and oil and gas drilling — zeroing out the EPA office that determines safe levels for PFAS and other toxic chemicals — none of these amendments made it into the House's version of the EPA budget.

But the Senate bill still contains anti-environment riders — and polluters' patrons in the Senate are conspiring with the Trump administration on ways to add more "poison pill riders" to the bill. They think they can get away with this. We cannot sit by quietly and let these amendments into the final bill, friend.

We have teams on Capitol Hill right now. Organizers are flooding offices with calls and filling inboxes with letters. We're putting pressure on in a major way to make sure anti-environment forces in Congress can't slip dangerous text into the final bill under the radar. But the truth is, a fight like this is expensive. Resources are extremely tight right now, and the thing we need most of all is your support.

To keep our work going, we need to raise $39,000 more before Monday. If everyone reading this right now pitched in just $5, we'd blow through that goal in minutes.

We can't take this fight lying down. We are activating every team and resource at our disposal today — and every day — until we make sure there are no anti-environment riders in this budget bill. But we can't do it without you.

I'm hoping we can count you in, friend. Right now your support goes three times as far. Please donate to LCV today. Even $5 makes a difference »

Thanks for stepping up at this critical time. There's a lot of work ahead of us, friend, and I'm glad you're standing with us.

Sincerely,

Matthew Davis
