On January 13, Kate Bates was a featured speaker for the Arlington Committee of 100 program Arlington's Economy in 2021: What Does the Future Hold alongside Telly Tucker, Director of Arlington Economic Development, and Jeannette Champan, Director, Stephen S. Fuller Institute for Research on the Washington Region’s Economic Future, George Mason University.

"These closures and restrictions have had a huge impact on our businesses and that impact is not going away. Businesses are going to have to dig out of a hole, a hole that we are still digging at this time, so they will need help beyond the lifting of these emergency restrictions," said Kate.
