Every worker deserves a safe workplace but unfortunately the pandemic has made many jobs that are not typically considered dangerous potentially life threatening. As DC gradually moves towards reopening in the middle of a deadly second wave it is crucial that the DC Council take action to ensure the safety of District workers! That is why we are calling on the Council to pass the The Workplace Safety During the Covid-19 Pandemic Emergency Amendment Act of 2021! This bill will put in place several common sense measures to protect District workers and ensure a responsible reopening of the District. This bill will be introduced and voted on tomorrow so we must act now!

If passed the bill would require employers to provide a safe workplace in compliance with the mayor’s orders, ensure that workers who quit due to unsafe work conditions can access UI, establish COVID-19 as a compensable illness for the purposes of workers comp and more.
