Sixteen (16) states saw their population decline in 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.[1] ([link removed])

The list included four of the six New England states: Massachusetts ([link removed]) , Connecticut ([link removed]) , Rhode Island ([link removed]) , and Vermont ([link removed]) . Three other major northeastern states also saw population declines—New York ([link removed]) , New Jersey ([link removed]) , and Pennsylvania ([link removed]) .[1] ([link removed])

The other nine states losing population were California ([link removed]) , Michigan ([link removed]) , Ohio ([link removed]) , Alaska ([link removed]) , Hawaii ([link removed]) , Illinois ([link removed]) , Louisiana ([link removed]) , Mississippi ([link removed]) , and West Virginia ([link removed]) .[1] ([link removed])

In raw numbers, the biggest population gains were found in Texas ([link removed]) and Florida ([link removed]) . On a percentage basis, the biggest increases were found in Idaho ([link removed]) , Arizona ([link removed]) , Nevada ([link removed]) , and Utah ([link removed]) .[1] ([link removed])
