As Trump sells our democracy, McCaul defends him.

You’ve seen the news. Trump told Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden. And withheld foreign aid to get his point across. A gross abuse of power. An impeachable offense.

What you may not have seen is Rep. McCaul in the Wall Street Journal, rising to Trump’s defense. Saying impeachment is “what Putin wants.”

McCaul’s contorted logic is true to form. Never mind that a U.S. intelligence official, supported by multiple witnesses, says Trump methodically prepared for his Ukraine shakedown. Never mind that Trump’s team hid the phone call transcript on an ultra-secure computer server. Never mind that Trump used national resources for his personal gain.

When our democracy is on the line, McCaul chose a side: to protect a corrupt dictator. To defend a President who today threatened to execute a whistleblower. To coddle a person who is undermining American democracy, at home and abroad.

We can’t tolerate Trump appeasers for a minute longer.
