Dear Friend,
We’ve won the election and officially have a Democratic president seated
in the White House! Now is the time to strengthen our democracy, so we can
avoid having another despotic president like Donald Trump ever again.
That’s why the newly elected Congress is prioritizing H.R. 1 -- the For
the People Act -- a once-in-a-generation democracy reform package. The For
the People Act will clean up our political system, expand and protect
voting rights, get big money out of politics, hold elected officials
accountable for corruption, and create a democracy that values the voices
of all Americans.
With a Democratic majority in the Senate, we have a real chance of passing
this unprecedented piece of legislation. But we need to put public
pressure on every senator to let them know that we want to live in a
country that centers real democracy.

senators, urging them to pass the For the People Act.
The For the People Act(1):
* Protects and expands access to the ballot, breaking down barriers to
exercising the right to vote through reforms including automatic voter
registration and blocking racially discriminatory voter purges.
* Makes representation in government more fair by ending partisan and
racial gerrymandering.
* Amplifies the voices of ordinary Americans in our politics, now
overwhelmingly dominated by a wealthy few, by establishing a small
donor matching system for federal races.
* Fights corruption by enacting new ethical standards for elected
officials.
Sixty-seven percent of Americans support this bill -- including 56% of
Republicans!(2) The main reason for its failure last year was Mitch
McConnell’s blocking of all progressive legislation and the Republican
Party’s authoritarian agenda.(3) McConnell framed the bill as a “power
grab,” when it’s really a bill to undo the GOP’s suppression of voter
power after President Obama’s election.(4)
But with a Democratic administration and majorities in Congress, we can
finally make sweeping reforms to get money out of politics and make voting
easy for everyone. That’s why we need you to email your senators and get
your friends and family to email their senators now. We went out to the
polls in record numbers in 2020, and now we need to show up at the same
scale to put pressure on our elected officials to make it easier for all
of our votes to be counted and our voices to be heard. We can’t let the
GOP try to steal take our voting power from us for the 2022 election.
