Friend,
“Give the man a break!”?1 No way!
This week, we heard Trump’s former ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, say that it’s time for Congress and the American people to get over the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, led by Trump and his white nationalist mob.
We will not give him a break. Nor will we let members of Congress, who repeated Trump’s lies and supported the insurrection to overturn the will of the American people, off the hook.
As the U.S. Senate prepares for Trump’s second impeachment trial we will learn more in the coming days and weeks about the violent insurrection and exactly what role Trump, members of Congress, and even the Pentagon played in either supporting or allowing this attack to occur.
While we are fighting to defend our democracy, we are also fighting a pandemic that has ravaged our communities―including people and families who were already hurting before the pandemic began.
Last year in the U.S. House, we pushed for $2,000 recurring checks, changing the conversation about what was politically possible. I will continue to fight to get people the money they need to survive.
And, this past week, I reintroduced the Emergency Water is a Human Right Act, to prohibit water and electricity shutoffs during the COVID-19 emergency, and require providers to reconnect disconnected water, home energy, and electric services.
Right now, Congress must act on two fronts: Hold those accountable who attacked our country and our democracy, and fight for immediate aid to people and families in need.
Can you make an end-of-month contribution to fight for $2,000 monthly checks and water as a human right, while also holding Trump, his enablers, and their white nationalist mob accountable?
Since last summer, approximately 8 million more Americans have fallen into poverty. And, as millions of families go without food, water, and housing in the midst of the pandemic, congressional Republicans continue to oppose the critical assistance that our communities need.
The good news is that Democrats now control both branches of Congress and the White House. But change will not come easily. It’s up to us to demand the change that the American people overwhelmingly voted for―and remind Congress that each day that passes without COVID relief, the American people are hurting.
Can you donate $5 today to invest in my leadership as I represent your voice in Congress―and as we fight together for the progressive change our families and communities desperately need?

Thank you for fighting by my side to lift up marginalized people and communities in need.
Always serving you,
Rashida
