My Fellow Orange County Republicans –
We are just one month into 2021 and we are already hard at work. Since November of last year, we have hit the ground running to ensure that momentum stays on our side. I am pleased to report that a new Central Committee has been sworn in, and it is my honor to have been elected to a new term as Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County. I look forward to the unique challenges and opportunities that the next few years will bring, and I know that our new committee is more energized than ever.
At our first Central Committee meeting together, we heard from two candidates for CAGOP Chair, Jessica Patterson and Steve Frank. I am glad that our members, many of whom are delegates, got to hear first-hand from both candidates about the vision they have for the future of the Republican Party in our home state. We all believe that California is due for a conservative revival. Perhaps the greatest evidence of that is the campaign to Recall Gavin Newsom, which as of this week has collected 1.3 million signatures. With 1.5 million needed to force a recall election, there stands an ever-growing chance that California voters will have the opportunity to make a change in Sacramento. To help out in this effort, you can sign up to phone bank by going to www.CAGOP.org or you can donate to our on the ground signature collecting effort in Orange County by clicking here.
Looming large on our calendar is the Special Election for Orange County Board of Supervisors, District 2. Election Day is March 9th, and we are proud to endorse John Moorlach to be our next Supervisor. We are working hand in hand with his campaign team, and with your help we will ensure that the Board remains a 4-1 Republican majority. District 2 covers the cities of Costa Mesa, Cypress, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Stanton, Rossmoor and portions of Buena Park and Fountain Valley. Voters should expect their ballots to arrive in the mail roughly around February 8th. If you would like to join the OCGOP and Team Moorlach to help us win, feel free to email [email protected] to volunteer.
Last, but certainly not least, the month of January meant a change of leadership at the local and federal level. Orange County is lucky to now have state representatives like Janet Nguyen, Laurie Davies, Phillip Chen, and Steven Choi fighting for us in Sacramento. We know that they will make us proud. In a similar manner, seeing Michelle Steel and Young Kim be sworn in as Orange County’s newest members of Congress was an inspiring moment, and we are proud to have supported them from the very beginning. As we have seen from the first week of the new Administration, we are going to need them to fight for us.
On his first day in office, Joe Biden eliminated over 100,000 jobs via executive order while Katie Porter and Mike Levin applauded his decision. It is our top priority that they are voted out of office.
We have a remarkable opportunity in front of us. If we work together, we can hold our majority on the Board of Supervisors, Recall Gavin Newsom, and Take Back the House by winning even more seats in Congress. We can do this all in the next 2 years, and it starts right now.
I hope that you and your family have a safe and prosperous 2021, and I look forward to many more successes to come.
Sincerely,
Hon. Fred M. Whitaker
Chairman, Republican Party of Orange County
